The Set Yourself Free Programs
Our Set Yourself Free Programs have four different themes and are presented in two different formats. They have all been designed and are facilitated by Shirley Smith.
The approach of the programs are eclectic, incorporating education, individual and group therapy. Modalities drawn from are psychoanalytic therapies, Gestalt, Family Systems Theory, Transactional Analysis, Rational Emotive Therapy, Ericksonian Hypnosis, Neuro Linguistic Programming, Science of Mind and the concepts of Erik Erikson, Carl Rogers, Dr Ernest Holmes and Carl Jung.
Each program primarily benefits the participant, however, we can confidently say they have powerful and far reaching positive impact on family, significant others, friends and even generations to follow.

2. Breaking the Family Trance
History doesn’t have to repeat itself!
Focus:
Understanding your true identity behind the family roles; Creating a new vision for your life; Learning to identify your values, needs, wants and desires.
Overview:
Breaking the Family Trance is a powerful program designed to cut through the unconscious psychological defences that were established in our formative years through a dysfunctional family system. The result for many adults who grew up in a dysfunctional environment is a feeling of living life like a ‘fraud’, not being clear on life’s purpose and meaning and stuck in repetitive patterns of unuseful behaviours in life or in relationships.
Ask yourself the following questions:
- Are you overly responsible at work?
- Do you struggle to meet your own needs and wants, placing friends and family first?
- Do others see you as ‘the problem’?
- Are you 'the one' who listens to others problems?
- Do you feel uncomfortable asking others for help?
- Are you tired of being invisible?
- Do you and yourself feeling compelled to distract others, or use humour to ease emotional tension?
- Are you tired of searching for what to do in order to feel happy and satisfied?
Then this program will be an important step towards getting clear on your identity and creating the life you want to lead.

3. Overcoming Fear and Self-Sabotage
Will the choices you make in the near future be based on scarcity and fear or from love and abundance?
Focus:
Becoming aware of the feelings of fear and shame stored deeply in the unconscious; Identify your fears and how to overcome them; Breaking shame binds to fear; Lessen the intensity that fear has on your life; Learn a formula to embrace your fears and move forward.
Overview:
Fear has many faces Apprehension - Anxiety - Trepidation - Worry - Nervousness Indecision - Dread - Terror - Panic - Alarm – Phobia – Running on Adrenaline
Do you feel blocked or immobilised in a part of your life that is very important to you? Do you fear failure or have sabotaging behaviours that stand in the way of your success? Is the fear of intimacy standing in the way of having successful relationships?
The problem with fear is not the fear itself. The ‘problem’ is the consequences of fear based decisions and behaviours (especially the unconscious fears) that cause unhappiness, destruction and drama in our lives.
The solution is to retrieve what has been stored and to break up its intensity/voltage. Only then can we examine our fears with our conscious, rational mind; dismantle defensive behaviours and begin to set ourselves free.

4. Healing the Wounds of Adolescence
Focus:
Relieve emotional pain especially reducing shame, anger and other overwhelming feelings; Learn boundaries to experience healthy adult relationships; Grieve childhood and adult losses so you can move on; Move away from blame and victim to regain freedom and choice.
Overview:
Adolescence is a powerful time in life because this is the natural time when we differentiate our identity from our family. We begin the process of ‘leaving home’ emotionally. Unfortunately, this didn’t happen for most people, leaving them feeling broken-spirited. This program deals with shame – anger & sexuality and will give you the opportunity to:
- FREE YOURSELF... from shame so you can have more of what you want
- LEARN... to use healthy anger as a boundary rather than a defence
- CLARIFY... your values regarding your sexuality, how you want to express it and learn to accept pleasure rather than feel guilty.
A healthy adolescent is the explorer, and the adventurer who likes to learn, take risks and enjoy life. Reclaiming the spirit of the adolescent within will allow you to be more authentic, spontaneous and secure, enhancing your ability to create a satisfying adult life.
These untreated adolescent wounds will present themselves in a significant area of your life causing enough pain, dissatisfaction or disappointment to drain your energy and enjoyment of life leaving you feeling depressed, uncertain and unclear about life’s possibilities and the next steps to take.
